Kuala Lumpur: AFC Project Future Coaches programme graduate Mohamad Kushairi Abdul Wahab has realised his dreams to coach at the national level after his recent appointment as the national U-14 assistant coach based at the Bukit Jalil Sports School in the Malaysian capital.
His appointment, effective from February 1, came a little more than a year after he finished the continental coach development programme and obtained an AFC ‘B’ Coaching Certificate in late 2011.
Prior to the national coaching appointment, Kushairi (second left) was the head coach of the Selangor State Sports School U-14 team that competes in the Malaysian Ministry of Education’s national league.
Kushari is honoured to be given the trust by the Football Association of Malaysia to undertake such a mammoth task which comes with its own challenges, and believes he will make good of the faith the association has in him.
“I love to be working towards developing young talents in Malaysia,” he told The-AFC.com. “However, I fear that people prefer and judge by results, without thinking about the actual development that is taking place.
“I know that my lack of experience may come under scrutiny but I am confident that my education with the AFC Project Future Coaches programme has given me an edge.
“I can’t wait to use my knowledge gained during the Project Future courses on the national team. And the main target this year for the U-14 national team will be the Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China, in August.”
Project Future Coaches is a two-year programme for young or new coaches with potential to take the Asian game higher in future.
