Kathmandu: Sri Lanka ended their South Asian Federation Football (SAFF) Championship campaign with a win following their 5-2 victory over Bhutan on Friday.
In an academic contest after both the sides were eliminated from the group stages, Sri Lanka attacker Mohammed Izzadeen scored four goals for the Lankans while their fifth came in through an own goal from Bhutanese defender Pema Dorji.
Izzadeen scored his first of the day in the 19th minute and doubled his tally in the 26th minute. An own goal from Dorji ensured Sri Lanka’s firm control in the match despite a 45th minute strike from Pasang Tshering.
The 32-year old veteran Izzadeen completed his hattrick in the 50th minute. Bhutan pulled one back in the 58th minute through Sonam Tenzin but Izzadeen’s stoppage time goal helped the Lankans to score a convincing win over pointless Bhutan.
