Kuwait City: Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates stayed on course to advance to the semi-finals of the 2017 Gulf Cup after playing to a 0-0 draw in their Group A tie at the Jaber Al-Ahmed International Stadium on Monday.
Having both started the tournament with wins, three points on Monday would have taken either team closer to the last four stage but neither side were able to breach the other's defence.
UAE had the better share of the possession in the first half, with Saudi Arabia forced to rely on counter-attacks in their search of an opening goal.
That changed in the second half as Saudi Arabia played a more attacking game but a goal eluded both sides.
The draw meant Saudi Arabia lead Group A on goal difference, having beaten hosts Kuwait 2-1 on Matchday One. UAE had kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 win over Oman on Friday.
Saudi Arabia play Oman in their final group tie on Thursday while UAE will face Kuwait, also on the same day.
Kuwait, however, will have no chance of advancing to the semi-finals after losing 1-0 to Oman in their second match on Monday.
Oman's match-winner was Ahmed Mubarak Al-Mahaijri, who struck from the penalty spot in the 58th minute.
