Kathmandu: AFC President's Cup 2014 participating Manang Marsyangdi Club captain Sagar Thapa has hailed the club’s recent signings ahead of their visit to Ulan Bator where they face hosts Erchim FC and Cambodia’s Svarieng FC in Group C.
Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) have left for the Mongolian capital with plenty of new signings and captain Thapa, who was a member of the Manang team who played in their debut finals back in 2006 in Malaysia, is adamant that the improved squad will seal a place in the tournament-proper in September.
The club have signed three defenders and a goalkeeper ahead of the new Nepali football season.
“We have our eyes firmly set for the final round,” Thapa was quoted as saying by The Himalayan.
“We have formed a new squad for the new season and we are heading towards Mongolia with a balanced team with the inclusion of some star players.
“We will give our best from our part and I think we have a fair chance to make it to the final round,” the Nepali national team captain added.
MMC will face Cambodian visitors Svarieng FC in their first match of the campaign on Thursday and their last match is against hosts and eight-time Mongolian champions Erchim on Monday.
The top-two sides of the three groups will lock horns in the finals to be played in September.
