Dushanbe: The celebration of Tajikistan’s Grassroots Year 2014 has come to an end with more than 15,000 children having taken part in 25 festivals across the nation.
Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon has declared the celebration of the auspicious year closed, a release from the Tajikistan Football Federation (TFF) said.
FIFA President Joseph Blatter officially launched the celebration of the TFF Grassroots Year on March 26, 2014 in the Tajik capital city of Dushanbe.
“We are proud to support initiatives such as the Grassroots Year in Tajikistan, as this is a concrete contribution to increasing the popularity of football throughout the world,” said Blatter then. “It is important that such initiatives also have a positive effect on the development of women's football.”
Rahmon has confidently expressed that football in Tajikistan will reach substantial development in future in all corners of the country creating the necessary conditions for children and youths to take more interest in the sport, the release further said.
The 25th and last festival under the TFF Grassroots Year was held at the Central Republican Stadium on November 15, 2014 in Dushanbe where more than 160 children had fun during musical warm-ups, worked with balls, participated in football relays and learned to play the beautiful game. The festival was preceded by a FIFA Grassroots Seminar attended by 20 grassroots leaders.
“In Tajikistan a lot has been done for the development of grassroots and youth football, because we perfectly understand that without grassroots and youth we cannot achieve success in professional football,” said TFF General Secretary Islom Mahmadshoev.
