Ho Chi Minh: Thailand jumped to top spot as they downed Cambodia 5-0 in their third match in the AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship for the ASEAN region at Thong Nhat Stadium on Thursday.
The Thais now enjoyed a perfect record after three games and relegated Vietnam from top to second position in the table as the Vietnamese suffered their first loss after three games in the hands of Myanmar in a later match.
Nuengrutai Srathongvian’s Thais led the Cambodians 3-0 at the break after Kanyanat Chetthabutr opened the scoring five minutes after the first whistle before Ratchamaporn Fueang-Arom doubled the lead after eight minutes. Matchima Kongthip took the scoring to 3-0 with her goal on 19 minutes.
Defender Anuthida Malasri then took it to 4-0 two minutes after the restart before Pradthana Songkram sealed the Thais’ 5-0 win one minute before full time.
The winless Cambodians led by head coach Samuel Schweingruber are currently on 5th spot in the six-nation table.
Thailand’s next match will be against Vietnam while Cambodia will lock horns with fellow winless side Malaysia as the inaugural girls’ regional competition goes into Match Day 4 on Saturday.
