Kuala Lumpur: Debutants Singapore have been drawn to face reigning champions Vietnam in this year’s AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship for ASEAN during an official draw in the Malaysian capital on Wednesday.
The Singapore girls were drawn into Group A along with the Philippines, Cambodia and inaugural winners Vietnam who will host the competition again this year.
Meanwhile, 2013 runners-up Thailand will battle it out against third-place winners Myanmar and Malaysia in Group B of the competition.
It will be a renewal of rivalry between Thailand and Myanmar as both sides fought it out to a 3-2 win for the Thais in the first round last year.
Each group will play a one-round league where each team will play one match against every other team in the same group.
The winners and runners-up of each group (total four) will advance to the knockout stage. The first, second and third-placed teams in the knockout stage will be awarded as the regional champions, runners-up and third-placed team respectively.
This year’s competition features two groups of seven teams as opposed to a single group of six teams in the inaugural edition in 2013.
The championship will be held from 10 to 15 June at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.
