Kuala Lumpur: Vietnam took a step closer to the semi-finals while Indonesia and Thailand ensured they remain on course in Kuala Lumpur 2017 SEA Games men's football Group B action on Sunday.
Vietnam were the most impressive of the three though as they maintained their 100 percent record with a 4-0 win over the Philippines at the Shah Alam Stadium.
The three points were sealed in the first half itself as Vietnam took a 2-0 lead into the break.
The Philippines, however, did well to keep the marauding Vietnam players at bay for most of the first half but were helpess to stop Nguyen Cong Phuong from scoring the opener in the 37th minute.
It was Cong Phuong's fourth goal of the tournament and he is surely one of the stars of men's football in the SEA Games.
The second was scored by Vu Van Thanh in first half stoppage time to ensure Vietnam went into the break on a high.
There was to be no respite for the Philippines though as four minutes into the second half, Vietnam scored again - this time through Nguyen Van Toan.
Ho Tuan Tai completed a highly satisfactory night with the fourth in the final minute of regulation time.
Up next for the highly impressive Vietnam are Indonesia and a win on Tuesday will seal coach Nguyen Huu Thang's side a place in the semi-finals.
