Bhutan stay on track as India, Nepal seal spots in women's final

Kathmandu: Bhutan boosted their hopes of making the 2019 South Asian Games men's football final with a 2-1 win over Maldives while Bangladesh registered their first win of the tournament, defeating Sri Lanka 1-0 on Thursday.

In the women's event, India scored an emphatic 6-0 win over Sri Lanka while Nepal defeated Maldives 3-0 as both teams sealed their places in the final with a match to spare.

Kathmandu: Sri Lanka denied Nepal a second successive win, scoring a stoppage time goal to salvage a 1-1 draw in their 2019 South Asian Games men's football tie at the Dasarath Rangasala Stadium on Wednesday.

The result was a blow for Nepal, who looked good value for the three points. The hosts, however, stayed top of the standings with four points after having defeated Bhutan 4-0 on Tuesday.

Kathmandu: Bhutan opened their 2019 South Asian Games men's football campaign with a 1-0 win over Bangladesh while Maldives and Sri Lanka played to a 0-0 draw.

Bhutan and Bangladesh started on a cautious note with limited chances at both ends in the first half at the Dasharath Rangasala Stadium .

Bhutan's Chencho Gyeltshen, however, found the opening his side was desperate for in the 65th minute and it would prove to be the winning goal.

Vietnam, Thailand advance to women's final

Manila: Vietnam and Thailand set up the expected 2019 SEA Games women's football final after seeing off their semi-final opponents on Thursday.

Defending champions Vietnam struck twice in the second half to subdue host nation Philippines 2-0 while Thailand edged Myanmar 1-0 in their semi-final.

It will be a second meeting between the two teams in the 2019 Sea Games, having settled for a 1-1 draw in their Group B encounter on November 26.

Manila: Defending champions Thailand were eliminated from the 2019 SEA Games men's football competition after only managing a 2-2 draw with Vietnam in their final Group B tie on Thursday.

Indonesia defeated Laos to take second spot in the group on 12 points, one behind Vietnam but, crucially, two more than Thailand.

Vietnam will play Cambodia in the semi-finals while Indonesia will meet Group A winners Myanmar on Saturday.

Group A: Cambodia beat Malaysia to make semis, heartbreak for Philippines

Manila: Cambodia beat Malaysia 3-1 to seal their place in the 2019 SEA Games men's football semi-finals, a result which dashed the Philippines' hopes despite their win over Timor-Leste on Wednesday. 

Cambodia, having never won a medal in men's football at the SEA Games, claimed their spot in the knockout stage as Group A runners-up with seven points to their name, while it was a heartbreak ending for Philippines, who were edged out on goal difference despite their 3-1 win.
