West Asia Domestic Wrap: Al Nassr back on track, Al Sadd advance in Qatar

Beirut: Defending champions Al Nassr regained their winning touch as they stayed in sight of Al Hilal SFC in the Saudi Pro League over the past week.

Al Sadd, meanwhile, needed penalties to advance in the Qatar Stars Cup while Al Qadsia maintained their position at the top of the standings in Kuwait.

Kuala Lumpur: Defending Thai League 1 champions Chiangrai United began their 2020 domestic campaign with a 1-1 draw against Samut Prakan City while in Cambodia, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng started their title defence with a resounding 5-1 victory over Soltilo Angkor. 

Elsewhere, Hantharwady United remained perfect in Myanmar and things look increasingly good for Sydney FC in Australia despite the league leaders not playing over the weekend.

South Asia Domestic Wrap: Gokulam Kerala, Machhindra emerge champions

Mumbai: The Indian Women’s League 2020 champions were crowned on Friday, as Gokulam Kerala defeated Kryphsa FC 3-2 to lift the title while Machhindra FC emerged champions of Nepal’s Martry Memorial A-Division League for the first time. 

In the Indian Super League, Chennaiyin FC boosted their hopes of a place in the play-offs with a 3-1 win over ATK while Mohun Bagan are eight points clear at the top of the I-League.

Tashkent: The second away trip in their debut AFC Champions League campaign takes Islamic Republic of Iran’s Shahr Khodro FC to Tashkent where they face Pakhtakor FC on Matchday Two of Group B on Monday.

The task ahead for coach Mojtaba Sarasiaei’s men is a daunting one against a Pakhtakor FC side that have won each of their nine home encounters against Iranian opponents in the AFC Champions League, keeping five clean sheets in the process. The Uzbek side had previously defeated another IR Iran side - Naft Tehran - in their debut campaign in 2015, and Shahr Khodro will hope to avoid the same fate.

The Mashhad-based side reached the group stage after edging Bahrain’s Riffa SC 2-1 in the Preliminary Round 2 then holding Qatar’s Al Sailiyah to a goalless draw before emerging victorious on penalties in the Play-off.
