Nepal emerge champions

Dhaka: Nepal clinched the 2022 SAFF Women’s U-15 Championship title on Friday following a 1-1 draw with Bangladesh. 

Nepal finished on 10 points from four matches in the-three team competition played on a double round-robin format.

Bangladesh ended the tournament with seven points while Bhutan lost all four matches.

Seoul: Son Heung-min has been included in Kore Republic’s 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as head coach Paulo Bento also selected Mallorca playmaker Lee Kang-in for the tournament later this month.

Son sustained a fractured eye socket playing for Tottenham Hotspur against Marseille in the UEFA Champions League last month but declared on social media last week that he would be available for selection for the Finals.

Attacking trio to lead Qatar's charge

Doha: Qatar head coach Felix Sanchez selected a 26-man FIFA World Cup squad on Friday led by attacking trio Akram Afif, Almoez Ali and Hassan Al-Haydos.

The tournament hosts are playing at the FIFA World Cup for the first time and face Ecuador in the opening match on November 20. Qatar will also meet Senegal and the Netherlands in Group A.

Abu Dhabi: Midfielder Salman Al Faraj will lead Saudi Arabia's FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 campaign after shaking off a shoulder injury. 

The Al Hilal SFC star, who captains Saudi Arabia, suffered the injury in a friendly against Iceland last week.

Appointed as national team coach in 2017 to replace Uruguayan Jorge Fossati, Sanchez’s association with football in the Gulf state stretches back to his arrival at the Aspire Academy in 2006 from Barcelona.
