Kuala Lumpur: The Organising Committee for the AFC Asian Cup 2015, which met on Monday under the chairmanship of Malaysia’s HRH Prince Abdullah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah, reviewed the progress made in preparations for the continent’s showpiece event in Australia.
AFC Acting President Zhang Jilong, in his welcome address, said he was confident that the next edition of the AFC Asian Cup would surpass all previous records in terms of performance, attendance, TV audience and organisation.
“Looking at the progress made so far and Australia’s rich sporting culture, I expect this AFC Asian Cup to be better than all the previous editions,” he said.
“I know that a lot of work needs to be done but I am confident that AFC and Australia Local Organising Committee (ALOC) will work together to make it a success.”
HRH Prince Abdullah lauded the cooperation between AFC and ALOC which helped streamline the implementation of decisions made by the committee.
“AFC and ALOC are working very closely to iron out the issues and I am happy to note that the preparations are as per schedule,” he said.
“The AFC Asian Cup is our most prestigious competition and I am sure it will have a tremendous impact in Australia. We will have to make this AFC Asian Cup successful which will benefit the future editions of this competition.”
ALOC CEO Michael Brown presented Australia’s planning and preparedness to host the event in 2015.
