Kim hopeful of ending Malaysia’s long wait for AFC Asian Cup™ appearance
Kuala Lumpur: Head coach Kim Pan-gon believes Malaysia can end their 16-year wait to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup™ following the China 2023 Qualifiers Final Round draw on Thursday.
Malaysia last qualified on merit in the 1980 Kuwait edition, while in 2007, they featured as joint hosts alongside Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Kim’s side will host Group E and will kick off their qualifying campaign against Turkmenistan at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on June 8 before facing Bahrain on June 11 and Bangladesh three days later.
Groups decided for AFC Asian Cup China 2023™ Qualifiers Final Round
Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Asian Cup China 2023™ Qualifiers Final Round promises to be a thrilling affair with the 24 teams learning their opponents on Thursday.
The draw, held virtually in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, saw the teams drawn into six groups.
The six group winners and five best second-placed teams will join hosts China PR, Australia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Japan, Korea Republic, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and United Arab Emirates and Vietnam in the Finals.
AFC Cup 2022™ Group Stage centralised venues confirmed
Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has today confirmed the centralised venues for the AFC Cup 2022™ Group Stage, which is scheduled to be played in the West and South Zones from May 18 to 24, and in the ASEAN, Central and East Zones from June 24 to 30.
The AFC Cup 2022™ Group A matches will be held in Muscat, Oman, where three-time winners Kuwait SC will battle Lebanon’s Al Ansar as well as Al Seeb Club from Oman and Jableh of Syria.
