Yangon: A clever finish by substitute Kyi Lin was enough to give Myanmar a 1-0 victory over a stubborn Macau side in Yangon on Tuesday night in the teams' final AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 qualifier.
The win guaranteed Myanmar third place in Group A with eight points from their six games while Macau ended the campaign without a point. India and Kyrgyz Republic have already secured the two places at next year’s Finals in the United Arab Emirates.
Myanmar were dominant from the outset, particularly through star striker Kyaw Ko Ko, who was a livewire all night.
Kyaw Ko Ko created the first chance on four minutes when he poked a shot past Macau goalkeeper Ho Man Fai, only to have his effort cleared off the line by a Macau defender.
Kyaw Ko Ko went close again just minutes later, but his powerful shot from inside the area was blocked.
Myanmar continued to push forward but were unable to take their chances, partly due to some inspired saves by Macau goalkeeper Ho Man Fai, and partly through their own poor finishing.
Macau were able to create some limited chances in the first half, mainly through striker Carlinhos Fernandes, but they were few and far between. His first effort, on 20 minutes, was a long range effort that flew harmlessly wide.
