Thrilling Road to AFC Asian Cup 2023™ set for classic battles
Kuala Lumpur: After three years of riveting drama and excitement, the race to the upcoming edition of the AFC Asian Cup™ will reach its decisive stage on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, as Asia’s 24 remaining contenders begin their quest to secure the final 11 spots at the Continent’s pinnacle national team stage.
Raising the stakes, the AFC Asian Cup 2023™ Qualifiers Final Round will see fierce battles and old rivalries restored across six centralised venues – Kuwait (Group A), Mongolia (Group B), Uzbekistan (Group C), India (Group D), Malaysia (Group E) and Kyrgyz Republic (Group F) where Asia’s hopefuls will battle across three Matchdays on June 8, 11 and 14.
Preview - Group A: Kuwait v Indonesia; Jordan v Nepal
Kuwait City: The race for the final 11 slots at the AFC Asian Cup™ 2023 gets underway on Wednesday with 24 teams across the six groups. 1980 champions Kuwait host Group A where they will be joined by Indonesia, Jordan and Nepal.
With all games taking place at Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium, the home side get the action started against Indonesia at 19:15 local time while the later kick-off pits Jordan against Nepal three hours later.
Preview - Group B: Philippines v Yemen; Palestine v Mongolia
Ulaanbaatar: The four teams in Group B of the AFC Asian Cup 2023™ Qualifiers Final Round will continue their quests to reach the continental competition when their campaigns resume at MFF Stadium on Wednesday.
First up in Ulaanbaatar, the Philippines take on Yemen before hosts Mongolia face off against Palestine as the quartet begin the week-long final round in the knowledge that there are potentially two spots up for grabs at the tournament.
Preview - Group C: Uzbekistan v Sri Lanka; Thailand v Maldives
Namangan: Group C of the AFC Asian Cup™ 2023 Qualifiers Final Round promises to be a thrilling affair with perennial qualifiers Uzbekistan and Thailand aiming to advance while Sri Lanka and Maldives will be bidding for debut appearances.
Thailand and Maldives will kick off the Group C action at the Markaziy Stadium in Namangan, before hosts Uzbekistan play Sri Lanka.
Preview - Group E: Bahrain v Bangladesh; Turkmenistan v Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur: The final round of AFC Asian Cup 2023™ Qualifiers Final Round kicks off for Malaysia, Turkmenistan, Bangladesh and Bahrain in Group E with two games on Wednesday at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
The early kick off sees Helio Sousa’s Bahrain take on Bangladesh while host nation Malaysia face Turkmenistan in the second match. Only the team that finishes top of the group is guaranteed to qualify to the AFC Asian Cup 2023 with the best five runners up also taking a place in the tournament proper.
