Defending champions Japan lead the Group C cast with Lebanon, China PR and Indonesia for company, while 2015 winners Oman are in Group D with Palestine, Kuwait and Kyrgyz Republic.

Pattaya: The AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup™ returns with Thailand hosting the 2023 edition which will see 16 teams vying for continental glory. 

Five previous champions are in the mix with Japan aiming to defend the 2019 title won on the beaches of Phuket.

Casas hails Iraq's fortitude after epic final

Basra: Head coach Jesus Casas lauded his Iraq players for their mental strength and determination after lifting the 2023 Gulf Cup on Thursday.

In an exciting final that needed extra-time and was settled in the dying seconds, Iraq edged Oman 3-2 before their jubilant fans at the Basra International Stadium.
 
Ibrahim Bayesh opened the scoring for Iraq in the 24th minute, with Salah Al Yahyaei equalising from the penalty spot in second half added time. 
 
Amjad Atwan then scored with a penalty in the 116th minute, only for Oman's Omar Mohammed to equalise three minutes later. Iraq, however, had the final say with Manaf Younis heading home the winner in added time for their fourth title.
