Vakhidov proud to end Tajikistan’s 15-year wait

Kuwait City: Head coach Pairav Vakhiodv praised his Tajikistan players for their hard work which resulted in them reaching the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ knockout stage for the first time since 2007. 

Tajikistan had to survive a late Turkmenistan revival in their final Group B tie before winning 8-5 to advance to the quarter-finals as the runners-up behind Uzbekistan.

Group B: Tajikistan advance with a flourish

Kuwait City: Tajikistan overcame a resilient Turkmenistan 8-5 to confirm their place in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Kuwait 2022 quarter-finals as Group B runners-up on Saturday. 

Through to the knockout stage for the first time in 15 years, Tajikistan will face Group A winners Thailand in the quarter-finals.

Group B: Uzbekistan stay perfect

Kuwait City: Uzbekistan defeated Bahrain 6-1 to finish their AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Kuwait 2022 Group B campaign with a perfect record of three wins on Saturday.

Uzbekistan, who had secured their knockout stage spot prior to the match, hardly put a foot wrong against Bahrain and will now face hosts Kuwait in the quarter-finals.

KL City’s Lambert relishing ‘experience of a lifetime’ in AFC Cup™

Kuala Lumpur: Declan Lambert has described Kuala Lumpur City FC’s run to the final four of the AFC Cup™ 2022 as one of the best experiences of his life as the side from the Malaysian capital gear up for their Inter-Zone final against Uzbekistan’s PFC Sogdiana on Wednesday. 

It’s been quite the year for Malaysia-born Lambert, who joined KL City at the beginning of 2022 and has been a key figure in the debutants’ maiden continental campaign in which his side won the ASEAN Zone before defeating India’s ATK Mohun Bagan in the Inter-Zone semi-final. 

Soon after that result Lambert received his first call-up to the Malaysia national team, scoring in the penalty shootout victory over Thailand in the King’s Cup on his debut just a week ago.
