Vientiane: Muhamad Syahmi bin Rashid netted a hat-trick as Brunei began their AFC U-16 Championship 2014 qualifying Group H campaign with a 4-1 win over Guam on Saturday.
Defender Nazirrudin bin Haji Ismail broke the deadlock at the National Sports Complex in the 16th minute before Michael Benito equalised for Guam nine minutes later.
Muhammad Syahmi then took over the goal-scoring responsibilities single-handedly, doubling Brunei’s advantage in the 38th minute and added another four minutes later. The forward then completed his hat-trick and sealed the win with the only goal of the second half, which came in the 73rd minute.
The winners of the ten qualifying groups and the best five runners-up will join hosts Thailand in the finals of the 2014 AFC U-16 Championship.
