Wuhan: China registered a hard fought 2-1 win over Myanmar at the Hankou Culture and Sports Stadium on Friday to join DPR Korea at the top of AFC U-16 Championship 2014 qualifying Group I with one round of matches left.
Liu Ruofan and Duan Liuyu, who both scored hat-tricks as China hammered the Northern Mariana Islands 14-0 in their opening fixture, were on target for the Group I hosts with Liu opening the scoring in the 22nd minute only for Myanmar to draw level just after the hour mark through striker Shwe Ko.
But with 12 minutes left on the clock Duan got the goal the saw China join DPR Korea on six points, with the two East Asian giants facing off on Sunday with a place in next year’s AFC U-16 Championship finals in Thailand at stake.
