As Japan, China PR, DPR Korea and Australia prepare for Wednesday’s semi-finals, the-AFC.com looks at six talented youngsters who have shone on the big stage in Chonburi.

China will play Group A winners Japan in the semi-finals on Wednesday in a repeat of the 2017 third place play-off tie with a place in the 2020 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup at stake.

A rematch between the 2017 finalists produced a similar result to the previous decider, as DPR Korea overcame their neighbours as well as challenging conditions thanks to goals from Myong Yu-jong, Hong Song-ok and Kim Hye-yong.

While Hwang Yong-song’s side can now look forward to a semi-final meeting with Australia on Wednesday, Sunday’s match was the end of the line for Korea Republic, whose group stage elimination was confirmed.

The three-time champions will face the Group B runners-up in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Striker Tohura Khatun put the South Asians ahead on two separate occasions, with a pair of second-half equalisers from Claudia Mihocic and Paige Zois required to maintain Australia’s unbeaten record.

The Junior Matildas sealed their place in the semi-finals for the first time in 10 years, but it was Bangladesh who were in the mood to celebrate, as they claimed their first ever AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Finals point.

Already out of knockout stage contention, and still reeling from a 9-0 defeat to Japan three days prior, few gave the South Asian side a chance at IPE Chonburi Stadium, but a committed team performance and two goals from promising striker Tohura Khatun earned them a historic first ever Finals point.

While World Cups, club titles and major individual awards would follow, many of Asia’s women’s football icons began their careers on the same stage which greets a new generation of players in Chonburi in the AFC U-16 Women's Championship Thailand 2019.
