Jakarta: Korea Republic inched closer to the coveted AFC U-19 Championship 2014 finals ticket as they routed Laos 5-1 in their Group G qualifying penultimate match at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Thursday.
The Koreans scored three goals in the first half but Indonesia managed to pull one back before the half-time whistle, but Kim Sang-ho’s boys scored two more to take the game out of reach of the hosts.
Korea showed what they were made of as they drew first blood as early as the third minute through Hwang Hee-chan’s goal before Seol Tae-su doubled the lead on 18 minutes.
Lee Jeong-bin scored a penalty kick on 29 minutes taking the lead to 3-0 before the Thai’s Soukchinda Natphasouk brought it one down on 34 minutes.
Come the second half, Lee completed his triple by scoring on 76 minutes and at full time to put a lid on the Koreans’ scoring.
Korea will meet Indonesia in a Saturday match that will decide the group winners that will advance to the October 2014 finals in Myanmar.
Laos and Indonesia, who are already out of reckoning for the tournament proper, will play academically also on Saturday.
