Qualifiers Group H: Opening wins for Australia, Iraq

Kuwait City: Australia and Iraq opened their bids to qualify for the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 with victories in Group H of the Qualifiers on Friday.

Australia defeated hosts Kuwait 4-1 while Iraq fought back to beat India 4-2 at the Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium.

Chinese Taipei, Thailand learn Playoff Tournament opponents

Zurich: Asia’s hopefuls Chinese Taipei and Thailand have discovered their opponents following the conclusion of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ Playoff Tournament draw on Friday.

The 10 teams, who are vying for the final three spots, will play in the qualifying tournament in Hamilton and Auckland in New Zealand on February 17-23, 2023.

Japan lead Asian cast for Australia/New Zealand challenge in latest FIFA World Ranking

Kuala Lumpur: Japan will head into next week’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand 2023 draw as the continent’s highest ranked team among the six Asian sides to have qualified. 

Japan, who will be seeking to win the FIFA Women’s World Cup title for a second time, were unchanged at 11th spot in the latest ranking.

Navi Mumbai: China PR’s 2-1 defeat of Mexico in the opening round of games in Group C of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 owed much to a decision made by their goalkeeper, Chen Liu, three years ago. 

The 16-year-old, who thwarted the Mexicans time and again with the score at 0-0, was a keen ice skater until the age of 13, when she decided to give it up for football.

Renard call up 32 players for training camp

Riyadh: Head coach Herve Renard has announced a 32-player preliminary squad list for Saudi Arabia’s final preparatory camp ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The four-week camp runs from October 17 to November 10 with the Green Falcons scheduled to play five friendly matches, before heading to Qatar.
