Kano: Second-half resilience key to Japan’s victory

Tashkent: Head coach Michihisa Kano said a change in tactics in the second half propelled Japan to their 2-0 victory over China PR on Thursday, which secured their AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 semi-final berth. 

Japan took the lead in the first half through Maya Hijikata before Suzu Amano’s strike closed out the game, which meant the East Asian side also booked their place in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Colombia 2024.

Ri demands more from DPR Korea; Vietnam’s Ijiri sees positives

Tashkent: Rather than being pleased with his side’s emphatic win on Thursday, DPR Korea head coach Ri Song Ho said he had expected more from his team in their AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 clash against Vietnam.

A dominant performance saw DPR Korea notch a 6-0 win over the Southeast Asian side in Group B but the 53-year-old was disappointed that his charges couldn’t score more from their 30 shots to improve their goal difference, which could ultimately decide the final group standings.

Tashkent: Japan defeated China PR 2-0 to book their AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 semi-final spot on Thursday.

Goals from Maya Hijikata and Suzu Amano secured Japan their last four berth from Group B with a match to spare and also booked their ticket to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Colombia 2024.
 
Defeat for China PR meant their hopes are hanging by a thread, with victory against Vietnam needed on Sunday with DPR Korea - on four points - to face Japan.

The victory was Korea Republic’s first of the campaign after having suffered a 2-1 defeat against Australia in their opening game with Shin-ji playing a starring role by scoring once and contributing two assists at the Do'stlik Stadium.

Gosford: Australia’s Central Coast Mariners FC have one foot in the next stage of the AFC Cup™ 2023/24 after they registered a 4-0 win against India's Odisha FC in the first leg of their Inter-Zone semi-final on Thursday.

After dominating the early proceedings, Mikael Doka found the breakthrough for the hosts in the 36th minute at Central Coast Stadium and Storm Roux doubled their advantage early in the second half.
 
Doka then scored his second from the penalty spot with a little under 15 minutes to play before providing the assist for Ronald Barcellos’ 89th-minute strike to give Central Coast a commanding lead ahead of next week’s second leg.
