Kuala Lumpur: Eight teams will kick off their quest to be crowned the Continent’s best when the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 gets underway this weekend.

Hosted in Uzbekistan for the first time, the 11th edition will be staged in capital city Tashkent and run from March 3 to 16, 2024.

Draw sets stage for thrilling #U20WAC Uzbekistan 2024

Kuala Lumpur: The AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 has all the ingredients to be a thriller following the official draw at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday.

The eight teams were divided into two groups for the March 3 to 16, 2024 tournament.

Qualifiers Group B: Chinese Taipei complete cast

Yangon: Chinese Taipei became the final team to qualify for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 after defeating Nepal 5-0 in their Qualifiers Round 2 Group B tie on Saturday.

The victory took Chinese Taipei to four points and their passage was confirmed after hosts Myanmar were defeated 5-0 by China PR, as they finished second  on goal difference.
 
Group A winners Australia, runners-up Vietnam and China PR had already confirmed three of the four spots available in the Qualifiers, joining the three highest seeded sides from the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 - Japan, DPR Korea and Korea Republic – as well as host nation Uzbekistan in the March 3-16, 2024 Finals.

Kuala Lumpur: Asia’s representatives in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 will be confirmed on Wednesday, with just two spots up for grabs.

Australia look set to advance after taking a 3-0 lead against Uzbekistan in the first leg while there is all to play for in the other tie, with Japan and DPR Korea having played to a goalless stalemate on Saturday.

Kuala Lumpur: Wataru Endo marshalled the Liverpool midfield brilliantly in the absence of several stars to help the Reds edge Chelsea 1-0 in an extra-time thriller at Wembley Stadium and lift the League Cup on Sunday. 

Takumi Minamino produced a stunning strike in second-half stoppage time enabling AS Monaco to snatch all three points from RC Lens in a 3-2 win in France while Islamic Republic of Iran striker Sardar Azmoun started and won a penalty in AS Roma’s 3-2 victory against Torino in Italy on Monday.

AFC President congratulates Asian teams and match officials at FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup UAE 2024

Kuala Lumpur: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated the Islamic Republic of Iran for finishing third at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup UAE 2024 Dubai, whilst also commending the performances of Asian teams and match officials as Oman’s Turki Abdullah Said Al Salehi was appointed second referee in the Final between eventual winners Brazil and Italy on Sunday.

Following their 6-1 victory over Belarus in the third-place play-off, IR Iran sealed their second consecutive bronze medal finish in tournaments they've been involved in, after their Bahamas 2017 exploits.
