‘Ice-Kuol’ Aussie relishes wonder goal, Iraq lament goal-shy outing

Qarshi: Forward Alou Kuol rated his ‘scorpion goal’ against Iraq as one of his best, and it couldn’t have come at a more crucial moment with Australia down to 10 men in their AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 Group B encounter on Saturday.

The lanky player, who plays for Germany’s SV Sandhausen, was running towards Joshua Rawlin’s cross but as the ball’s path was slightly behind him, Kuol acrobatically connected with his back heel to put his team ahead before the break.

Qarshi: A 10-man Australia held on for a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Iraq in their AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 Group B clash on Saturday. 

The Olyroos received an early red card but shocked their opponents when Alou Kuol scored arguably the goal of the tournament so far in injury time of the first half before Hasan Abdulkareem equalised.

Qarshi: Jordan edged a spirited Kuwait 1-0 for their first win in Group B of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 at the Markaziy Stadium on Saturday.

For the second successive match, Mohammad Aburiziq came to their rescue in the second half to pick-up his second goal of the campaign but Jordan were made to sweat in the dying minutes when Bashar Aldiabat received a straight red five minutes from time.

Al Yami: Focus secured Saudi Arabia impressive victory

Tashkent: Hamad Al Yami broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion to set the tone as Saudi Arabia defeated Tajikistan 5-0 in Group D of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 on Friday. 

The match was headed for a goalless first half but Al Yami stunned Tajikistan three minutes from the half-time whistle with an audacious backheel which led to the floodgates being opened in the second half.

The big win means Saudi Arabia lead the standings ahead of Japan, who defeated United Arab Emirates 2-1, with the two teams to face off on Monday.

Oiwa pleased with Japan’s flexibility, UAE’s resolve impresses Silva

Tashkent: Head coach Go Oiwa admitted Japan were a little nervous in the first half, but was satisfied with how his team adapted to tactical changes to clinch a 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates in their opening AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022  Group D match on Friday.

UAE had the brighter start at the Pakhtakor Stadium, but Japan gradually took a hold on the match to open the scoring through Yuito Suzuki in the 61st minute, with Yaser Alblooshi equalising two minutes later. 

The West Asians then missed an opportunity to turn the tide from a penalty kick, with Mao Hosoya then heading home the winner in the 76th minute.
