Bangkok: Qatar head coach Felix Sanchez will lead his team into their final Group B meeting with already-eliminated Japan on Wednesday knowing they must secure a win to stand a chance of advancing to the quarter-finals of the AFC U23 Championship Thailand 2020.
Sanchez’s side have drawn both of their opening games – against Syria and Saudi Arabia – to sit in third place in the standings on two points, two points adrift of the leading duo with just one round of matches remaining.
With the Syrians and Saudi Arabia due to face each other at Thammasat Stadium, Qatar's hopes are hanging by a thread as should the other match end in a draw, the head-to-head record of the three teams will come into play.

Bangkok: Saudi Arabia head coach Saad Alshehri believes a lack of individual brilliance proved crucial as his side were held to a 0-0 draw by Qatar in Group B of the AFC U23 Championship Thailand 2020 on Sunday.
Despite creating the more clear-cut opportunities in what proved to be a tight and tense encounter at the Thammasat Stadium, the Saudis failed to convert a number of second-half chances after breaching a resolute Qatar defence.

Bangkok: Abdulrahman Ghareeb’s late penalty earned Saudi Arabia all three points on Thursday as Saad Al Shehri’s side defeated Japan 2-1 in the nations’ opening Group B clash in the AFC U23 Championship Thailand 2020 at Thammasat Stadium.
Ghareeb converted from the spot two minutes from time after referee Chris Beath confirmed via the Video Assistant Referee that Makoto Okazaki had fouled Feras Al Brikan and the Al Ahli striker made no mistake from the spot.
The game had looked destined to end in a draw after Ayman Al Khulaif had seen his 48th minute opener for Saudi Arabia cancelled out by Ryotaro Meshino nine minutes later.
