Suphanat focused on team, not self glory

Tashkent: Suphanat Muenta’s two goals led Thailand to a comfortable 3-0 victory against Malaysia on Sunday, elevating him to the top of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 goal scoring charts.  

After scoring a 90th minute equaliser in the Group C opener against Vietnam, Suphanat carried his stellar form into Matchday Two against Malaysia and his brace at the Budyodkor Stadium means he is on par with Korea Republic’s Cho Young-wook.

Worrawoot credits Thailand unity for classy display against Malaysia

Tashkent: Worrawoot Srimaka hailed his Thailand team for producing a polished display in their 3-0 defeat of Malaysia in Group C of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 on Sunday.

Victory at the Bunyodkor Stadium put Thailand firmly in the running for a quarter-final berth as they head into their final game against Korea Republic, level on four points.

Malaysia, meanwhile, have been eliminated, having lost both their games and will play for pride when they take on Vietnam, who are still in contention for a place in the knockout round.

Tashkent: Head coach Gong Oh-kyun was proud of Vietnam for rising up to challenge against AFC U23 Asian Cup™ defending champions Korea Republic, but was disappointed not to have taken full advantage against the 10-man side. 

Substitute Cho Young-wook scored his third goal of the tournament in the 63rd minute to hand Korea Republic the lead, who were then reduced to 10 men when Lee Jin-yong was sent off 15 minutes later with Vu Tien Long’s impressive strike in the 83rd sealing a point for Vietnam.

Suphanat Mueanta scored twice with Channarong Promsrikaew adding the third in a meeting between two Southeast Asian rivals at the Bunyodkor Stadium.

Victory means Thailand face a winner-takes-all clash with Korea Republic on Wednesday, with Malaysia only playing for pride against Vietnam, who are also still in the running for a knockout stage spot.

Group C: Vietnam hold Korea Republic to keep hopes alive

Tashkent: Vietnam fought back from a goal down to hold ten-man Korea Republic 1-1 in Group C of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 on Sunday.

The draw meant defending champions Korea Republic were denied the opportunity to seal their berth in the knockout stage with a match to spare while Vietnam, runners-up in 2018, are still very much in the race to advance.
