Philippines' Maro eyes California training camp after reaching AFC Women's Asian Cup India 2022 Finals

Tashkent: Head coach Marlon Maro is hoping to take his Philippines squad to California for their final phase of preparation after booking their spot in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 Finals.

The Southeast Asian side edged Hong Kong 2-1 in Tashkent on Friday to seal top spot in Group F to confirm their position among the 12 teams who will be at India 2022.

With qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 also at stake in India 2022, Maro is hoping to be able to work with his entire squad in the buildup to the continental showpiece.

Tashkent: The Philippines secured their place at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022, topping qualifying Group E with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Hong Kong at the JAR Stadium on Friday.

A second goal in as many matches from Tahnai Annis put the Malditas on course for the Finals, but a stunning Chung Pui Ki free-kick gave Hong Kong hope before Chandler McDaniel ensured the Philippines will be among the 12 teams who compete in January’s Finals with a late winner.

The win also keeps the Philippines’s hopes of a first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance alive, with the top six teams at India 2022 to directly qualify for the 2023 global Finals in Australia and New Zealand.

Tashkent: Korea Republic became the first team to successfully navigate the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 Qualifiers, sealing their place at next year’s Finals with a 4-0 win over Uzbekistan on Tuesday.

Level on the group standings coming into the match, Korea Republic went ahead through an early Nozima Kamoltoeva own goal, then surged clear after half-time with Choe Yu-ri doubling their lead before super sub Moon Mi-ra scored twice in the shadows of full-time.

The win takes Korea Republic to their 13th successive Asian Finals, extending an interrupted record of participation dating back to 1991, while Uzbekistan’s bid to qualify for the first time since 2003 fell at the final hurdle despite a strong showing against a side ranked 18th in the world.

West Bank: Malaysia defeated Palestine 2-0 in their AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 Group H qualifiers on Wednesday but victory was not enough to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Having lost 4-0 to Thailand in their opening tie, Malaysia needed to win by a bigger margin and hope for Palestine to defeat their Southeast Asian rivals in the final Group H match on Saturday but it was not to be.

Defeat doesn’t end Palestine’s hopes as they can still advance if they beat Thailand.

AFC Women's Asian Cup India 2022 Qualifiers - Group G: IR Iran defeat Bangladesh to set up decider with Jordan

Tashkent: Islamic Republic of Iran are one victory away from qualifying for their first ever AFC Women’s Asian Cup, after defeating Bangladesh 5-0 at Bunyodkor Stadium on Wednesday.

The win brought Maryam Irandoost’s side level with Jordan at the top of Group G, with the winners of Saturday’s clash between the two sides to decide who advances to January’s Finals in India.

Iranian captain Behnaz Taherkhani scored twice from the penalty spot, with Melika Motevalli, Golnoosh Khosravi and Hajar Dabbaghi also finding the back of the net to eliminate a Bangladesh side who had lost their first match 5-0 against Jordan on Sunday.
