Asian Qualifiers - Group B: Defeat to Australia ends Jordan's dream
Kuwait City: Australia made it eight wins from eight to cap a perfect Asian Qualifiers Second Round campaign, earning a 1-0 victory which extinguished Jordan’s hopes of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on Tuesday.
A sixth goal in five matches from defender Harry Souttar secured victory for the Socceroos, with the Stoke City man rising highest to head home a corner kick in the 77th minute, dashing Jordan’s bid to qualify for the Third Round as one as one of the best-placed runners-up.
Australia’s perfect tally of 24 points marks their best ever start to an Asian Qualifiers campaign, and keeps alive their bid of reaching a fifth successive FIFA World Cup Finals.
Asian Qualifiers - Group A: Philippines, Maldives settle for draw
Sharjah: Ali Fasir earned the Maldives a 1-1 draw with the Philippines on Tuesday as Martin Koopman’s side bounced back from going behind to Angel Guirado’s strike to share the points in their final Group A meeting in the second round of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the AFC Asian Cup China 2023.
Guirado put the Azkals in front 19 minutes into the game at Sharjah Stadium as the Philippines went looking for their fourth win of the campaign, but Scott Cooper’s side were denied all three points by Fasir’s effort six minutes later.
The result means the Philippines, who had already secured third place and a guaranteed berth in the final round of qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup, finish their campaign with 11 points from eight games. The result was enough for Maldives, who collected seven points, to also qualify for the third round of the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualifying.
Asian Qualifiers - Group E Preview: Oman in no mood for slip-up against Bangladesh; India, Afghanistan vie for third
Doha: Despite having secured second place in Group E, Oman will target a win against Bangladesh in their final Asian Qualifiers second round tie against Bangladesh on Tuesday while India and Afghanistan will square off for third place.
While Qatar may have confirmed themselves as the Group E winners, Oman are well placed to advance to the final round of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2022, and adding another three points to their current haul of 15 surely enough to take them through.
India, meanwhile, only need to avoid defeat to confirm third spot with the South Asian side on six points, one ahead of Afghanistan.
Asian Qualifiers - Group F: Win over Myanmar not enough for Tajikistan
Osaka: Tajikistan fell short of advancing to the final round of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers and directly to the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 despite a 4-0 win over Myanmar on Tuesday which saw them finish second in Group F of the Asian Qualifiers.
Needing to better Kyrgyz Republic’s result against group winners Japan to leapfrog their Central Asian neighbours into the runners-up position, the Tajiks opened the scoring just after the half hour through Komron Tursunov, before goals from Manuchehr Dzhalilov, Sheriddin Boboev and Shahrom Samiev completed a comprehensive victory after the interval.
With Kyrgyz Republic also losing 5-1, Tajikistan confirmed second position but results elsewhere on Tuesday meant they failed to advance. Myanmar, meanwhile, finished bottom but made it to the final round of the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Qualifiers.
Asian Qualifiers - Group F: Japan cruise past Kyrgyz Republic to finish with perfect record
Osaka: A first-half hat-trick from Ado Onaiwu helped Group F winners Japan advance to the final round of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with a perfect record after a 5-1 win over Kygyrz Republic on Tuesday at Panasonic Stadium Suita.
With Tajikistan defeating bottom side Myanmar 4-0 in the group’s other tie to leapfrog their regional rivals into second, Kyrgyz Republic finished in third in the standings, with Mongolia taking fourth spot.
Son wants Korea Republic improvement ahead of final round of Asian Qualifiers
Goyang: Son Heung-min has insisted that Korea Republic must up their game in the final round of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers after they rounded off their Group H campaign with a 2-1 victory over Lebanon at Goyang Stadium on Sunday.
The come-from-behind victory – in which Son scored the winner from the spot – ensured that the Taeguk Warriors finished the second round of Asian Qualifiers unbeaten, having dropped just two points from their six matches.
But, despite winning all three of their games and scoring 12 goals in the process since Group H resumed in early June, the Tottenham Hotspur forward believes there is plenty of room for improvement.
