Dushanbe: Reigning AFC Asian Cup champions Qatar escaped with a barely deserved 1-0 win on Tuesday as Felix Sanchez’s side saw Afghanistan miss a first-half penalty during their Asian Qualifiers Group E.
Akram Afif’s penalty 14 minutes from time spared Qatar’s blushes and secured all three points, but only after Omran Haydary saw his effort from the spot saved by Saad Al Sheeb in the first half in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualifying tie.
As a result, Qatar remain unbeaten in their first five qualifiers and sit on top of Group E with 13 points while Afghanistan remain on four points with three games left in the second phase of qualifying.

Muscat: Oman edged India 1-0 on Tuesday to stay in sight of Qatar in Group E of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.

Dubai: Head coach Fajr Ebrahim believes Syria’s recent hard work is starting to pay handsome dividends after watching his side record a fifth successive Asian Qualifiers victory thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Philippines on Tuesday.
Ward Salama’s first-half goal proved the difference at Dubai’s Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium as Syria reinforced their position at the top of the Group A standings by going eight points clear of second-placed China PR.
With progress through to the next phase of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifying – and a place at the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 – now tantalisingly close, Ebrahim is adamant that Syria fully deserve to be where they are.

Ashgabat: Turkmenistan completed a dream week on home soil to take top spot, at least temporarily, in Group H of the Asian Qualifiers after a 2-0 win over Sri Lanka at Kopetdag Stadium on Tuesday.

Ante Miše’s side are now a single point ahead of Korea Republic, who hold a game in hand, while Sri Lanka remain at the bottom of the group without a goal or a point after five matches.
