Fabulous 5 make Asia proud by advancing to FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 knockout stage

Vilnius: All five of Asia's representatives qualified for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 Round of 16 as the group stage concluded on Monday.

Japan were the final Asian team to advance after finishing third in Group E following a 2-1 defeat to Paraguay while Islamic Republic of Iran - who had booked their last 16 spot with a match to spare - finished second in Group F after losing 2-1 to defending champions Argentina on Monday.

Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam had confirmed their berths following the conclusion of their respective groups.

Vilnius: Islamic Republic of Iran finished second in Group F of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 after a narrow 2-1 defeat to defending champions Argentina on Monday.

The 12-time Asian champions, who finished third in the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup, will face regional rivals Uzbekistan in the Round of 16.

Having already booked their spots in the knockout stage, both teams opted for a cautious approach in their battle for top spot at the Vilnius Arena with IR Iran’s Saeid Ahmad Abbasi the first to test Argentine goalkeeper Lucas Farach in the second minute.

Vilnius: Japan were denied second place by a resilient Paraguay but the East Asian side advanced to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 knockout stage despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to the South Americans in their final Group E match at the Vilnius Arena on Monday.

Japan's superior goal difference meant they finished as one of the best four third-placed teams with Spain topping the group and Paraguay finishing second.

The three-time Asian champions will play five-time FIFA Futsal World Cup winners Brazil in the Round of 16.

Kaunas: Thailand booked their place in the knockout stage of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 after a commanding 9-4 win over Solomon Islands at the Kaunas Arena on Sunday.

The win took Thailand to four points, which meant they advanced as one of the best four third-placed finishers into the Round of 16, with Portugal winning Group C and Morocco finishing runners-up.

Kaunas: Vietnam played to a 1-1 draw with Czech Republic in their final Group D match of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 at the Kaunas Arena on Sunday.

The result meant Vietnam - with four points - finished third in the group but advanced to the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed finishers. Brazil won the group with nine points with Czech Republic second.

Uzbekistan stun Egypt to advance to FIFA Futsal World Cup Round of 16

Vilnius: Uzbekistan booked a place in the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 Round of 16 after defeating Egypt 2-1 on Saturday.

In a stunning turn of events, Uzbekistan joined Group B winners Russia Football Union in the knockout stage while Egypt, who had been in a better position going into the match, finished bottom.

Anaskhon Rakhmatov was the hero with the winner as Uzbekistan finished ahead of Guatemala and Egypt on goal difference with all on three points.
