Mumbai: Former Sweden and Nigeria coach Thomas Dennerby is leading India’s U-17 women’s team and the vastly experienced tactician is excited about about preparing the team for next year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The recent appointment of Dennerby as India’s U-17 women’s coach raised a few eyebrows, and underlined the ambitions of the nation hosting next year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
As a veteran of three FIFA Women’s World Cups with Nigeria and his native Sweden, the 60-year-old is one of the most experienced and respected coaches in the female game.

Mumbai: The Official Emblem for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2020 was unveiled on Saturday at the iconic Gateway of India, in Mumbai.
With one year to go before the start of the tournament, fans from across India and around the world experienced the excitement and optimism as the Official Emblem for the tournament was revealed to the public.
Representatives from the Local Organising Committee, FIFA, and the Indian government spoke about how the power of football – and youth competitions in particular – can promote positive change in society, with a focus on accessibility and gender equality.
The event culminated in a spectacular outdoor light projection to reveal the Official Emblem, which was attended by a host of stars from India and the world of football.

New Delhi: India will host the 10th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup from November 2-21, 2020.
The event, which will be the second FIFA tournament that the country will host in three years, will see a marquee emblem launch ceremony on Saturday as the one-year countdown starts.

Kuala Lumpur: India will host the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2020, FIFA announced on Friday.
"We are delighted to announce that India has been confirmed as the host of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in 2020," President Gianni Infantino said after the FIFA Council meeting in Miami, USA on Friday,
This will be the second FIFA tournament India will be hosting, after the U-17 Men's World Cup in 2017.
All India Football Federation General Secretary Kushal Das told Indian media: "We are thankful to FIFA for giving the right to host the U-17 Women's World Cup. This will raise the profile of women's football in the country.
"We have been giving a lot of emphasis on the development of women's football in the country. So we bid for the U-17 Women's World Cup and now we have got it."

Colonia Del Sacramento: Japan's hopes of adding to their 2014 title were dashed after they lost 4-3 on penalties to New Zealand in their FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup quarter-final after the match finished 1-1 on Saturday.
Japan had dominated the tie, controlling 63 percent of possession but had few chances as New Zealand registered their first win in four meetings over the East Asians to advance to the semi-finals for the first time, where they will face Spain who ended DPR Korea's challenge earlier in the day.

Colonia Del Sacramento: DPR Korea's FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup reign came to an end after the East Asians lost 3-1 to Spain on penalties after their quarter-final finished 1-1 after 90 minutes at the Estadio Alberto Suppici on Saturday.
There wasn't much that separated the two sides in the first half initially, but Spain grew into the match and produced a few chances before the break.
In the 40th minute, captain Eva Navarro broke through on goal and had a one-on-one opportunity but chipped her shot just wide of the Korean net.
Three minutes later Paola Hernandez produced a fiercely-hit shot, forcing DPR Korea goalkeeper Yu Son-gum into making an acrobatic save.
