Korea Republic’s campaign over after France defeat

San Jose: Korea Republic suffered the agony of a late 1-0 defeat against France in their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 Group C fixture at the National Stadium of Costa Rica on Wednesday.

Substitute Esther Mbakem-Niaro’s goal in the 74th minute sealed the win for the European champions, who joined Nigeria in the quarter-finals. France will meet 2018 champions Japan in Sunday's quarter-finals.

France finished with six points, three shy of group winners Nigeria with Korea Republic third with three.

Alajuela: Japan were at their best to beat USA 3-1 to secure top spot in Group D of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 on Wednesday. 

Three second half goals from Manaka Matsukubo, Shinomi Koyama and Haruna Tabata saw the 2018 champions advance to the quarter-finals with a perfect record of three wins for a face-off with Group C runners-up France Sunday.

Khujand City: PFC Sogdiana were at their clinical best as they continued their dream AFC Cup™ debut campaign by beating FC Khujand 4-0 in the Central Zonal final on Wednesday , but head coach Ulugbek Bakaev wants his side to improve even further heading into the Inter-Zone Semi-finals.

Three goals in the first half gave Sogdiana a comfortable lead, with Javokhir Kakhramonov sealing a convincing win for the Uzbek Super League club with his strike in the 78th minute as they advanced to a showdown with Hong Kong's Eastern Long Lions in the Inter-Zone Semi-finals on September 6.
