Beyond Greatness™ – game-changing new brand identity revealed for FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™

Zurich: FIFA has revealed an exciting and bold new brand identity for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™, incorporating a vibrant new visual approach that aims to unite and inspire people around the world through the power of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ and women’s football.

The brand identity and emblem incorporate the vibrant local landscapes and rich colours of the two hosts, building a palette based on the rainforests, earth, mountains, cities, and water of the two countries. A radial motif featuring 32 colourful squares – celebrating the new expansion to 32 participating nations, and an element commonly seen across the indigenous cultures of Australia and New Zealand – is a prominent part of the design.

The motif symbolises not only the world’s best teams coming together, but also the spirit and values of the two host countries radiating back out into the world, with football at its core.

AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ Draw finalised

Kuala Lumpur: The draw for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ concluded in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.

The virtually conducted draw for the expanded 12-team tournament will see Japan begin their defence of the titles won in 2014 and 2018 in Group C.

Bell seeks Korea Republic improvements after USA defeat

Minnesota: Korea Republic head coach Colin Bell will look to improve his players’ fitness ahead of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 after seeing his side handed a 6-0 loss by the United States just days after holding Vlatko Andonovski’s team to a goalless draw.

The result at the weekend snapped the United States’ run of 22 straight wins at home, but Bell’s side were punished in Minnesota on Tuesday by an American side that scored three times in the final five minutes against the tiring Koreans.

Gustavsson wants tough build up for Australia

Sydney: Australia head coach Tony Gustavsson wants the Matildas to play as many games against high-class opposition as possible to prepare his squad for the country’s co-hosting of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.

The Australians were held to a 2-2 draw by Brazil on Tuesday in the second of back-to-back clashes with the South Americans, with Gustavsson’s side winning the opening encounter 3-1 on Saturday.
 
The Matildas will play two more friendlies next month against as-yet unannounced opponents before travelling for January’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022, where they will be among the favourites to win the title.

Qualifiers - Matchday Two: Results & Reports

Kuala Lumpur: United Arab Emirates and Kuwait have joined Australia, Japan and hosts Uzbekistan in the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022 Finals after topping their respective groups on Saturday. 

Kuwait confirmed top spot in Group D with their 2-1 triumph over 2020 runners-up Saudi Arabia while UAE defeated Oman 2-0 to emerge Group E winners.

Australia advanced on Friday as the Group G winners while Japan, the 2016 champions, booked their spot on Thursday after topping Group  K with a perfect record of two victories. 

Eleven places in the Finals are still up for grabs with the remaining seven group winners and four best runners-up to advance.

Futaba: Japan qualified for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022 Finals following a 4-0 win over Hong Kong at the J-Village Stadium on Thursday.

Having defeated Cambodia by the same score, Japan are the first team to join hosts Uzbekistan in the 2022 Finals.

Qualifiers - Group J: Malaysia edge Mongolia to boost hopes, Thailand bounce back to defeat Laos

Ulaanbaatar: Muhammad Nur Azfar’s strike proved to be the difference as Malaysia edged Mongolia 1-0 to make it two wins out of two in Group J of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022 Qualifiers on Thursday, while Thailand beat Laos 3-0 to revive their campaign. 

The win places Malaysia top of the standings and they only need to avoid defeat against Thailand on Sunday to secure their place in the Finals, while Mongolia’s best hope now is to defeat Laos and advance as one of the four best runners-up.
