Kuala Lumpur: AFC Asian Cup winners Australia have been revealed as Asia’s biggest movers in the latest FIFA Ranking which was released on Wednesday.
The Socceroos, who beat Korea Republic 2-1 to claim their first ever continental crown, climbed 37 places to be ranked fourth in Asia and 63rd in the world.
The Taeguk Warriors, meanwhile, find themselves second in Asia and 54th overall following a strong showing at Asia’s premier event Down Under and a rise of 15 places.
Iran, however, still top the table in Asia, with Team Melli, who exited the 2015 Asian Cup at the quarter-final stage, now ranked 41st having broken into the planet’s top 50 after jumping ten places.
Japan, who also went out in the 2015 Asian Cup quarter-finals, slipped to third in Asia and are now 55th globally, while beaten AFC Asian Cup semi-finalists the UAE and Iraq climbed 14 and 20 spots respectively.
Other notable performers included China (up 14 places to 82nd) and Pakistan (up 17 to 171st).
