Riyadh: Saudi Arabia couldn't make home advantage count with Frank Rijkaard's side being held to a goalless draw by Oman on Tuesday to miss the opportunity of advancing to the next round of Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers alongside Australia.
Australia wrapped up their place in the next qualifying phase with a 1-0 win over Thailand and the 2011 AFC Asian Cup runners-up would have been joined by the Saudis if they could defeat their Gulf neighbours at the King Fahd International Stadium but the stalemate means that the second place from Group D will go to the final round of matches.
Oman will be the more confident of the two with Paul Le Guen's side hosting a Thailand side whose defeat to Australia put them out of the reckoning while Saudi Arabia face a trip down under to face the Socceroos.
