Dhaka: Kuwait kept alive their hopes of taking part in the Olympics for the first time since 2000 after a 5-0 aggregate victory over Bangladesh took them through to the second round of Asian qualifiers for the Olympic Football Tournament London 2012.
Leading 2-0 from the first leg, Kuwait extended their advantage with 22 minutes at the Bangabandhu National Stadium played when Fahad Al Ansari opened the scoring.
Yousef Al Sulaiman added two further goals, scoring in first-half stoppage time and again with a minute left to play to seal a comfortable win for Kuwait, the last of the 22 first round teams to have participated at an Olympics, where a 3-2 win over the Czech Republic was not enough to get them into the knockout stage at the Sydney 2000.
Kuwait join ten other Round 1 winners and the 13 highest ranked teams (based on the qualifiers and tournament proper at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing) in the Olympic Football Tournament London 2012 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 draw, which takes place at AFC House on March 30.
