Hwang and Won Du-jae each scored from the spot inside 20 minutes before Honduran defender Carlos Melendez was sent off six minutes before half-time. Striker Hwang struck a second late in the first half and then completed his hat-trick from the spot shortly after the restart.
Kim Jin-ya and Lee Kang-in added further goals to complete the rout as Korea emphatically gained revenge for their elimination to Honduras in the 2016 quarter-finals to march on to Saturday’s knockout rounds.
