Borkelmans delighted as Jordan edge Lebanon

Dubai: A second half goal from Musa Al Taamari steered Jordan to a 1-0 win against Lebanon in an international friendly match at the Theyab Awana stadium on Monday.

The two sides are preparing for the resumption of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.

Jordan, who shared a goalless draw with Oman on Sunday, had the upper hand against Lebanon in the first half but failed to convert their chances.

Al Taamari gave Jordan the lead five minutes into the second half when Baha' Faisal made his way on the right before sending a neat pass to Al Taamari, who fired a powerful shot from the edge of the area past Lebanon substitute goalkeeper Mostafa Matar.

“It was a deserved victory,” said Jordan head coach Vital Borkelmans.

“I’m satisfied with the performance that we had and glad that we managed to keep a clean sheet for the second consecutive match.”

The two sides will continue their preparations for the Asian Qualifiers as Lebanon will take on Kuwait on Monday while Jordan play Bahrain a day later.

Jordan are third place in Group B of the Asian Qualifiers with 10 points, two behind Australia, while Lebanon are second in Group H with eight points from five matches.
