Central Asia Domestic Wrap: Pakhtakor’s perfect 10, Altyn Asyr lift Super Cup

Kuala Lumpur: Only one of the region’s leagues was in action but that didn’t stop Central Asia from producing week of cup action, silverware and no shortage of goals as the football summer continued.

Uzbekistan Super League leaders Pakhtakor racked up back-to-back 5-0 wins and saw their nearest rivals knock out of the cup in the Round of 16; a stage which saw two lower league clubs produce a 4-4 classic.

Elsewhere, Altyn Asyr FC won the Turkmenistan Super Cup, while Tajikistan’s big two scored seven goals apiece in huge first leg wins.

Hanoi: Becamex Binh Duong will look to overhaul a one-goal deficit in the second leg of the 2019 AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal Final on Wednesday after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Hanoi FC in the first leg last week.

In wet and windy conditions in Thu Dau Mot City, captain Nguyen Van Quyet opened the scoring for visitors Hanoi in the first leg, despite seeing his penalty initially saved by Binh Duong custodian Tran Duc Cuong.

Pape Omar Faye could have doubled the advantage after the interval, but struck the foot of the post on 70 minutes to leave the tie tightly poised.

Van Quyet: I anticipated rebound

Thu Dau Mot City: Nguyen Van Quyet has revealed that he was prepared for his penalty being saved after he immediately made up for missing from the spot by scoring the rebound to give Hanoi FC a 1-0 win over Becamex Binh Duong in the first leg of the 2019 AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal Final on Wednesday. 

Torrential rain proceeded kick-off between the Vietnamese pair at Binh Duong Stadium and it was the visitors who coped best in the tricky conditions. They were given the perfect chance to take the lead shortly after the half hour when Nguyen Hung Tien Duc upended Ngan Van Dai and the referee pointed to the spot.

Skipper Van Quyet was the man tasked with putting his side in front only to see his first attempt parried out by Tran Duc Cuong but he then reacted quickest to prod the rebound into the back of the net from close range, much to the delight of the small pocket of Hanoi fans behind the goal.

We still have a great chance, insists To Van Vu

Thu Dau Mot City: Becamex Binh Duong midfielder To Van Vu is confident his side can still progress to the 2019 AFC Cup Inter-Zone semi-finals despite a narrow 1-0 defeat to Hanoi FC in the first leg of the ASEAN Zonal Final on Wednesday. 

Nguyen Van Quyet's solitary goal in the 33rd minute was enough to decide the all-Vietnamese contest at Binh Duong Stadium in a game that the visitors shaded but was not without chances for the home side.

While Hanoi struck the woodwork and came close on several occasions, Binh Duong's captain Nguyen Anh Duc – on as a late substitute – could have salvaged a draw after having two sights on goal in the closing stages.
