Goal-fest kicks off Chinese Taipei Premier League 2020

Taipei: With 18 goals coming from the four opening day fixtures, there was plenty of action to savour as the Chinese Taipei domestic season got under way on Sunday.

Early revenge for Taipower

Having seen their hopes of a first Chinese Taipei Premier League title snatched away on the final day of the 2019 season after a home defeat to eventual champions Tatung FC, Chen Kuei-jen's side had a chance for a small measure of payback with a meeting against the holders on the opening day.

First blood, however, went to their rivals as Ivorian Ange Samuel was on target from the penalty spot just before half-time following a foul on Chang Hao-wei by Lin Yueh-han. New signing Chen Chao-an did level things up for Taipower, however, as the Chinese Taipei international fired home from a corner on 64 minutes.

Lee Hsiang-wei then put the Kaohsiung club ahead with a shot from the edge of the penalty area, only to see a pair of Tatung substitutes, Ben Ouedraogo and Pai Shao-yu, combine to make it 2-2. But Lee, and Taipower, would have the final say with a late winner earning the three points for the visitors.

Dominant Hang Yuan tame Red Lions

With third place finishes in three consecutive seasons, Hang Yuan got off to a postive start in their 2020 opener with a comprehensive 4-0 win over last year's bottom side Red Lions FC.

Chen Ching-hsuan got them off the mark on 11 minutes, before Wu Yen-shu drilled home a low free-kick from just outside the area on the half hour mark.

The second half continued with more of the same as Wu Jung-chueh took advantage of a ball over the top to make it 3-0 on 58 minutes, before Chou Yu-chieh scored the pick of the goals with a fiercely-struck effort on the edge of the box to round off the score with nine minutes remaining.

Tainan City put four past Ming Chaun University; Taichung Futuro edge TSU

In Sunday's remaining two ties, eyes would have been on the revamped forward line of Tainan City that now includes both 2019 MVP Marc Fenelus and 2019 Top Scorer Benchy Estama who joined the side from Tatung and Hang Yuan respectively.

The new signings did not disappoint with Fenelus opening the scoring before Estama's brace helped Lo Chi-chong's side to a 4-2 win over MCU.

And finally Taichung Futuro (pictured above) edged TSU by a 2-1 scoreline thanks to goals from Chen Ting-yang and Hung Tzu-kuei, despite a late stoppage time strike from Huang Zi-ming.
