Maldives and Palestine awarded Bronze memberships
Kuala Lumpur: The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) and Palestine Football Association (PFA) have been granted AFC Grassroots Charter Bronze Memberships following their continuous efforts in the development of football.
The Grassroots Charter is a development tool for Member Associations to raise the quality of their grassroots programmes.
It identifies 20 performance categories, such as grassroots competitions, fairplay, partnerships and personal development, which have all been met by FAM and PFA respectively.

Maldives recognises the value of Grassroots football as a medium to foster social and sporting values as well as personal development with the aim of attracting the population regardless of age and gender.
Maldives aims to convey its philosophy of Grassroots football through its vision ‘Football to all at all levels’ by instilling a healthy lifestyle and well being at amateur and non-elite levels. In addition, FAM also provide a platform for young children to develop as footballers.
Partnership with school authorities
Six out of 10 primary schools are actively participating in the Grassroots Programme in Addu City, while four out of 10 pre-schools are involved in the programme.
Seven Grassroots’ coaches from the FIFA Grassroots coaching course are actively involved in the programme at different schools.
The association’s concept of Grassroots programme is to bring together as many people through football by not only advocating the pleasure of practicing and playing football, but also promote teamwork, cooperation, tolerance and most of all fun.
MA Endorsed Grassroots Programmes
A major strength of the PFA in relation to Grassroots growth are their 17 football centres for both male and female players from ages 7-12, which attracted approximately 12,000 players.
PFA organised grassroots competitions for boys and girls in club and school competitions between the ages of 8-16.
The PFA has coaching courses for women and organised football festivals for women for the U-15 , U-17 and U-18 leagues.
