Myanmar, Thailand sail into women's semi-finals

Manila: Myanmar and Thailand advanced to the semi-finals of the 2019 Sea Games women's football tournament with commanding wins on Monday.

Myanmar defeated Malaysia 5-0 in Group A while Thailand beat Indonesia 5-1 in Group B, with both teams finishing runners-up in their respective groups.

Thailand, the 2017 silver medallists, will face Group A winners Philippines in the semi-finals on Thursday with defending champions Vietnam to play Myanmar.

Group A
Myanmar 5-0 Malaysia

Myanmar cruised to a 5-0 win over Malaysia at the Binan Football Stadium to seal their semi-final berth.

Held 0-0 by Philippines, Myanmar only needed to avoid defeat while Malaysia - beaten 5-0 by Philippines - had to win.


Group B
Thailand 5-1 Indonesia

Thailand only needed a draw to advance but produced a five-star performance to defeat Indonesia at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Kanyanat Chetthabutr powered them with a hat-trick, opening the scoring in the second minute, before completing her hat-trick with further efforts in the 18th and 29th minutes.

Silawan Intamee ensured a hefty lead going into the break by adding the fourth in the 42nd minute and Suchawadee Nildhamrong made it 5-0 for Thailand before Rani Mulyasari hit a consolation for Indonesia.
