Group B: Vietnam pass Indonesia test, Thailand win again

Manila: Vietnam scored in added time to edge Indonesia 2-1 in Group B of the 2019 Sea Games men's football tournament, taking a huge step towards the semi-finals on Sunday.

Thailand saw off Singapore 3-0 to keep their hopes alive while Laos defeated Brunei Darussalam 3-0 to register their first win of the tournament.

Nguyen Hoang Duc was Vietnam's match-winner, scoring in added time as his side edged Indonesia 2-1.

It was Vietnam's first real test, having cruised past Brunei Darussalam (6-0) and Laos (6-1), and one which Park Hang-seo's side passed with flying colours.

Indonesia had also impressed in their first two matches, scoring 2-0 wins over defending champions Thailand and Singapore.

Indonesia took the lead in the 23rd minute when Sani Fauzi, capitalising on an error by Vietnam goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung, scored with a header.

Vietnam pressed hard in the second half and defender Nguyen Thanh Chung headed home a corner in the 64th minute.

Vietnam would have the final say, with Hoang Duc scoring with a screamer in added time for the three points.

Thailand 3-0 Singapore

Defending champions Thailand, having lost to Indonesia in their opener, registered their second successive win as they strolled past Singapore at the Binan Stadium.

Akira Nishino's side, who beat Brunei Darussalam 7-0 last time out, exerted control from the first blow of the whistle and took the lead in the seventh minute as Jaroensak Wonggorn finished Suphanat Mueanta's pass.

Suphanat scored Thailand's second goal in the 19th minute and Peerawat Akkraum made it 3-0 in the 36th minute as the points were sealed.

Singapore are still in search of their first win, having drawn 0-0 with Laos and losing 2-0 to Indonesia.

Up next for Thailand are Laos on Tuesday while Singapore will face Vietnam.

Laos 3-0 Brunei Darussalam

Laos defeated Brunei 3-0 to register their first win of the tournament, having drawn with Singapore and losing 6-1 to Vietnam in their earlier matches.

The win took Laos to fourth in the standings, with an outside chance of advancing to the semi-finals.

It was Brunei's third consecutive defeat with matches against Indonesia and Singapore still to come.
