Spanish legend Xavi salutes Al Sadd's Hassan

Muscat: FIFA World Cup 2010 winner and Al Sadd’s Xavi Hernandez has hailed his teammate Abdelkarim Hassan for claiming the prestigious AFC Player of the Year Award in Muscat, Oman on Wednesday, adding that the accolade was a sign of things to come from the 25-year-old.

"Abdelkarim has been amazing this season and this great achievement is a victory not only for Al Sadd but also for Qatar football,” said the legendary Spaniard who won eight La Liga titles with Barcelona.

"I am proud that Abdelkarim Hassan is the best player in Asia, this is a great honour for him and fantastic for his future.

"He is a source of great pride for Asian football, we wish him all the best, his win is a historic moment and we are extremely pleased for him," added Xavi.

Xavi’s glowing commendation of Hassan was further echoed by Al Sadd’s head coach Jesualdo Ferreira, who added: "Abdelkarim continues to display incredible tactical discipline not only in matches but also during training.

“He is one of the most important and reliable players in my team. He has great strength and contributes significantly to the team’s success and his performances have continued to grow from strength to strength.

"I am deeply honoured to train the best player in the Qatar League and now in Asia," said the former FC Porto and Panathinaikos manager.

"On behalf of the Al Sadd family, I congratulate Hassan for another outstanding year. It has been a remarkable journey and there is still plenty of room for him to grow because he has great potential to perform even better."
