Fantastic starts for Philippines, Tajikistan

Mongolia v Tajikistan -  Women’s Olympic Football Tournament 2020 Round 1 Qualifiers

Hisor: Philippines and Tajikistan began their Women’s Olympic Football Tournament 2020 Round 1 Qualifiers Group A campaign with convincing wins over Singapore and Mongolia respectively on Sunday.


Philippines flexed their muscles on Matchday One, beating Singapore 9-0 at the Hisor Central Stadium.

Shelah Mae Cadag opened the scoring for Philippines with back-to-back goals in the third and fifth minutes, before Alesa Nazareno Dolino and Hali Long scored a goal each in the 27th and 32nd minutes respectively.

Cadag completed her hat-trick two minutes before going into the break.

Irish Navaja and Sara Isobel Arrieta Castaneda etched their names on the scoresheet as well with goals in the 52nd and 57th minutes to make it 7-0.

Two minutes later, Long scored her second goal of the night before Navaja, too, secured her brace in the 67th minute.

Singapore will play Mongolia on Tuesday, while Philippines face Tajikistan on Thursday.


Three second half goals ensured host nation Tajikistan secured a 4-1 win over Mongolia.

Tajikistan secured an early lead with Khalimova Laylo’s ninth minute goal, but lost their advantage when Tassan-Okhin Orgodol equalised in the 32nd minute.

However, Tajikistan were more composed after the break and goals from Khalimova Gulsunbi and a brace from Fozilova Madina ensured them an opening day win.
