Júnior Negrão joins China PR's Changchun Yatai

Changchun: The new home of 2020 AFC Champions League hero Júnior Negrão has been revealed, with the Brazilian striker joining newly promoted Chinese Super League outfit Changchun Yatai.

Júnior, 34, makes the switch to Chinese football after four years and 96 goals in Korean football, including 35 in all competitions for Ulsan Hyundai FC in 2020.

The prolific marksman was a key figure in Ulsan’s 2020 AFC Champions League triumph, finishing level with Abderrazak Hamdallah with a tournament-best seven goals, two of which came in the Korean club’s 2-1 win over Persepolis FC in the continental final.

That performance proved to be his last for Ulsan, with his exit confirmed in January, nearly four weeks before he announced Changchun as his new home via his social media account.

Chinese Super League champions back in 2007, Changchun Yatai’s capture of Júnior is a major statement of intent ahead of their return to the top-flight, with the club having already signed Erik, a fellow Brazilian who spent 18 months on loan at Yokohama F. Marinos and lifted the J1 League title in 2019.

Changchun were the success story of the abbreviated 2020 China League One season, topping Group C as well as the six-team final stage to return to the top table of Chinese football following their relegation in 2018.
