Second half strikes send Inter through

Seattle: Second-half goals by Francesco Esposito and Alessandro Bastoni gave Inter Milan a 2-0 victory against 10-man River Plate at Lumen Field in Seattle, sealing top spot in Group E and a spot in the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

Inter will now face Group F runners-up Fluminense FC in Charlotte on Monday. CF Monterrey pipped River to second in Group E and will take on Borussia Dortmund in Atlanta on Tuesday.

Miami Gardens: ​​Fluminense FC have qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 knockout phase after battling out a tense 0-0 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns FC on Wednesday.

The Brazilian side needed a point to book their place in the last 16 and they successfully shut out Sundowns, who required victory to extend their stay in the USA. 

Fluminense have advanced as Group F runners-up, with Borussia Dortmund beating Ulsan HD in the section’s other fixture on Wednesday to secure top spot.

Flamengo top group after stalemate with Los Angeles

Orlando: Brazilian side Flamengo drew 1-1 with Los Angeles FC  on Tuesday in a match they entered having already secured top spot in Group D, and now await Bayern Munich in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

Los Angeles forward Denis Bouanga threatened to give the MLS side an upset win in their final game of the tournament after a cool finish in the 84th minute, only for Wallace Yan to equalise for Flamengo two minutes later.

Charlotte: SL Benfica grabbed the early lead on Andreas Schjelderup's first-half strike and got crucial second-half saves by goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin to beat Bayern Munich 1-0 and qualify for the knockout round at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

With the victory, Benfica finish as Group C winners and will meet the Group D runners-up in Charlotte on Saturday. Bayern will meet Group D winners Flamengo in Miami on Sunday.
