Nay Pyi Taw: Cambodia burned their chance to qualify for the AFC U-14 Championship 2014 finals after drawing 0-0 with Laos in their Group F match at Zeyar Thiri Stadium in Myanmar on Friday.
Cambodia had earlier in the campaign lost 5-0 to Indonesia and then drew 0-0 with Bangladesh. The Bouy Dary-led side have accumulated only two points from three games, seven points adrift from group leaders Thailand and are therefore out of reckoning for the finals with two more games to play.
Laos, who sit on four points, still have a chance to qualify but they have a daunting task of winning the remaining two games and scoring at least 15 goals to edge the Thais from top position on goal difference.
The Laotians face Indonesia while the Cambodians have Thailand as their next opponents on Sunday.
Iran, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, DPR Korea and Iraq have already booked their tickets to the finals after finishing their respective qualifying groups.
The results of the ongoing Group F and also Group E, both in Myanmar, will complete the qualification stage of the eight-nation inaugural U-14 tournament.
Group F standings as of Saturday:
Thailand – 9 points
Singapore – 4 points
Indonesia – 4 points
Laos – 4 points
Cambodia – 2 points
Bangladesh – 1 point
