Yangon: Substitute Robin Singh netted a last-gasp winner as India edged Chinese Taipei 2-1 in their opening match of the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 qualifiers at the Yangon Youth Training Centre on Saturday.
India went 1-0 up in the 40th minute through Jewel Raja Shaikh but Tai Lin Lee brought Chinese Taipei level nine minutes into the second half.
With the match appearing destined for a draw, India’s Dutch coach Wim Koevermans replaced opening scorer Shaikh with Singh in the 82nd minute and the move paid dividends in the 90th minute when the substitute sealed victory for the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup winners.
Group A action resumes on Monday when India will face Guam and Chinese Taipei take on hosts Myanmar.
